If you live in the Balmain-Rozelle area (Sydney - Australia) and you want to do something about Climate Change, you've come to the right site. Updated Nov 2008 |
Welcome to CLIMATE CHANGE BALMAIN-ROZELLE, an independent collective of local residents who share serious concerns about the planet future generations will inherit due to ever increasing greenhouse gas emissions. As the science surrounding global warming continues to flood in, we despair at the continued lack of action on behalf of our political leaders, and in particular at the current state government's massive expansion of the coal industry.
While much of the modern world is seeking new and safer energy options, we are looking for much of the same with a just transition to illiminate fossil fuels in our lifetime. TIME FOR ACTION!
You're invited to this powerful peaceful protest in February
Why? Because we need those difficult decisions around cutting greenhouse gas emissions to be made now - not next year or next term - if we are to secure a safe climate for the future. PM Kevin Rudd and Penny Wong, elected on the promise of action on climate change, are now choosing a dangerous path of weakened measures that will only serve to undermine international negotiations. What is the protest?
On the first day of the sitting of Federal Parliament 2009, Climate Change Balmain-Rozelle will join thousands of other ordinary Australians in a large peaceful protest forming a human chain that will encircle parliament. The aim is to create a huge media event that will place climate change at the top of the Federal Government's agenda. Bring the whole family, or a group from school or work
CCBR is considering organising a coach to take people from the Leichhardt area to Canberra (and back) to make the journey as simple as possible. The event will only be powerful if we can swell those numbers and really get the politicians' attention. Please email ccbrmail@aapt.net.au to register your interest in travelling by bus with CCBR on February 3rd to arrive in Canberra in time for the 8am protest. Australia's Climate Action Summit The February 3 protest comes at the end of a three day summit being held in Canberra by grassroots climate action groups across Australia. For more on this tide-turning event head to http://www.climatemovement.org.au/summit/ Come on! CCBR is totally independent CCBR has two primary goals: What can you do.... Collectively we can make change happen - but we need to re-ignite the democratic process and start talking to the decision makers ...our politicians.
